| So you want to import a game? | 03/08/00 | ||
| Let's face it, games come out in
Japan well before they are ever released in the states, if they are released here at all.
As a gamer who keeps up to date on what's hot in both countries this really
sucks. Sega GT, Shenmue, Resident Evil: C.V. and other eagerly anticipated U.S.
titles have been out in Japan, for months! Patience is a virtue, but if your like I am not for games. But how do you get import games, and how do you play them? Honestly the answer to this is easy. We all have computers with online access (or you wouldn't be reading this) which means we can shop online. Myself and the people I work with have found to online retailers that we've used numerous times and so far we've had no problems with them. ncsx (National Console Support) is my favorite site, though gamecave is another good choice. What do you need to import games? First of all a console that will support imported software. Whether it's a mod chip (that you can put in yourself or send your system away to have it installed) or a Japanese system. If you try and play an import game on a non modified American system nothing is going to happen. (Author's note: I originally purchased a mod chip for my dreamcast but it's very tiny, unless you are extremely good with chips you might want to consider an import system). Once you have the system you need a credit card, or a debit car, anything with a credit card logo. Games are shipped to you overnight (if you want to pay for it) via 2nd day air or just about any shipping option you want. That's it, it's that easy to find import games and get them sent to you. Whether you choose to or not is totally up to you, but if your an impatient gamer (hopefully with a bit of Japanese knowledge though a friend beat Code Veronica knowing none of it) who wants to play the latest and greatest this is something to consider.
